There are two different cards available: the Macy's Credit Card and Macy's American Express® The basic Macy's Credit Card can only be used for Macy's purchases, while the Amex card can be. The Macy's credit card is issued by Citi, a major financial services company. Unlike the regular Macy's Credit Card, if you sign up for their AmEx counterpart you are eligible for the Star Rewards program.

The standard Macy's Credit Card can only be used to make purchases at Macy's stores or online at Macys.com.

When you open a Macy's Credit Card, you're automatically enrolled in their "Star Rewards" program at the Silver level status.
